Chamber of Commerce Marks 50 Years as the Voice of Business in Lindsay

The Lindsay & District Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 50th anniversary of incorporation in 2012. A "Golden Anniversary Gala" celebration will be held on Friday, Oct. 12 for all past and present Chamber directors, staff and special guests.

The event will be designed to be a "trip down memory lane," to look at the past five decades of business development in Lindsay and the City of Kawartha Lakes. We will combine local history with provincial, national and international timelines. We welcome archival materials and historical items that could be loaned for display purposes on that night.

The Lindsay & District Chamber of Commerce currently represents more than 550 businesses and associations in the southern half of the City of Kawartha Lakes. As the “Voice of Business”, the Chamber advocates on behalf of local business to advance the commercial, financial, industrial and civic interests of our community. In addition, we are a public relations vehicle, a legislative monitor at the local, provincial and federal levels of government, and a business and tourist information bureau.

Since 1962, there have been 221 local individuals serve as directors on the Board of Directors for the Chamber. There are 35 who have served as Board Presidents. Many of these people are alive and well, and we want to contact them all if possible in order to invite them to the celebration. We have contact information for many of them, but there are some people who have moved away or who may not be in the area anymore - however, there are local individuals who may know how to contact them. Thus, we are asking anyone who may be able to help with information about past directors to drop into the Chamber office and have a look at our list. Any assistance that can be provided so that we can contact everyone will be greatly appreciated.

Invitations to the event will be sent out shortly to all past directors. The event will be held at the Lindsay Golf & Country Club on Oct. 12 and will include an opportunity to connect with friends and colleagues, to reminisce and reflect on past achievements of the Chamber, and to take a trip "down memory lane" through archival material that reflects the history of business in the Lindsay and district area over the past few decades.

Many individuals aware of our plans for the Golden Anniversary Gala have approached the Chamber with memorabilia and historical items suitable for the evening. Anyone with items that may be of interest is also asked to come to the Chamber office at 20 Lindsay St. S. in Lindsay. All items lent to us will be returned to their owners following the event.
