1st Annual Lindsay Scottish Festival is Coming

Lindsay: The Campbells are coming hurrah, hurrah…and the Stewarts, MacDonalds and the Frasers…Saturday June 27, and Sunday June 28 will mark the first annual Lindsay Scottish Festival at the Lindsay Fairgrounds. With Kawartha Lakes so rich with Scottish heritage the Festival is a perfect fit for our community.
The gates for the festival will open at 8:00am on June 27 with the Pipers and Pipe Band Competition and Solo Piping & Drumming Competitions beginning at 9:00am. Saturday will feature the headline performance by Gaelic Storm commencing at 8:30pm. Gaelic Storm has sold out at hundreds of theatres and performing arts centers as well as being featured in the blockbuster film Titanic. They have been praised for their energetic performances and enthusiastic audience interaction. Claidhmor will begin the main stage entertainment for Saturday evening at 7:30pm.
Other exciting events for Saturday include PPBSO Sanctioned Pipe Band Competition, Solo Piping and Drumming competition, Sheep dog demonstration, Foos ball competition in the Farmers Mutual Exhibition Building, along with the Heritage Christian School Tea Garden, Scottish Vendors and the Avenue of Clans. The Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes present a Children’s Pavilion with lots of activities for kids of all ages; there will be Sheep Shearing demonstrations and Scottish breed dog shows, along with Highland Agricultural Show which includes Highland Cattle, Shorthorn and Angus as well as Clydesdale Horses. The day continues with Heavy Games featuring the City of Kawartha Lakes Fire Fighters versus the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service. Do not miss this momentous event as they compete in some of Scotland’s oldest and most traditional events.
On Sunday, June 28 Farmers Mutual Insurance Company (Lindsay) presents Family Day with the Kirkin O’ the Tartans, a traditional service honouring the Clans. The Farmers’ Mutual Exhibition Building will include Heritage Christian School Tea Area, Avenue of the Clans, as well as many Scottish vendors, and the Foos Ball Competition. The Children’s Pavilion brought to you by the Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes and the Sullivan Group will open again, and the Sanctioned Highland Dance Competition will begin at 8:30am and continue throughout the day with various levels of competition from beginners to world champions! The Scottish Breed Dog Show welcomes the attendance of dogs of all ages and types, from champion show dogs to the neutered pets with many prizes to be won. Throughout the day the Pipes and Drums of Lindsay will perform along with 5 other Pipe Bands and massed presentations.
The organizing committee of The Lindsay Scottish Festival is pleased to present one of only eight in Ontario sanctioned by the Pipers and Pipe Band Society of Ontario. It is an event that is surely not to be missed. There is entertainment and fun for kids and adults alike.
