How can we curb rising electricity costs in Ontario?

The price of electricity in Ontario is set to rise over the next two decades, adding to the cost of doing in the business in the province.

In our latest report,
Empowering Ontario: Constraining Costs and Staying Competitive in the Electricity Market, we call on the Government of Ontario to take immediate action to constrain rising electricity costs and help businesses stay competitive.

The report makes five recommendations that, when combined, will address rising electricity rates and create system-wide cost savings. This includes increasing transparency of cost drivers and keeping the Debt Retirement Charge on all customers' bills.

Our research also shines light on those options that government should not take, including importing hydroelectric power from Québec to replace nuclear generation and cancelling feed-in tariff (FIT) contracts.
